Paul left today for a four day business trip. He's made it to his destination safe and sound and has already sent two pictures from the camera phone. The last couple of days have been busy, good busy, so I decided to stay at home and not take the kids to the pool or anything. This, of course, led to a chorus of
ouches,
smacks,
hair pulls,
he-started-its,
go-aways and anything else you can possibly imagine.
I think I should have just taken them swimming! Around 3:30, I decided I was too hot and tired to deal anymore so I shipped them off to the grandparents and headed out to see a movie.
I had been trying to resist spending the money this week but sometimes
a mom's gotta do what a mom's gotta do. I wasn't sure which movie I was going to see: Pirates 2 or Superman Returns. Being a little moody lately (no , Colin!) due to some
sleep issues, I was feeling indecisive as I approached the theater. Finally, I made my decision to see Superman Returns because Colin and I have been watching these specials that discuss the history of Superman and other comic book heroes.

Well, I loved it! Colin had given it a high recommendation and I knew going in that it, in many ways, paid tribute to, relied on, whatever you want to call it, the original Superman movie. Brandon Routh is Christopher Reeve personified, so if you are still a little emotional about his dying, I'd hold off on this one for awhile. He does a great job at evoking Reeve's performance without seeming like it is a mere copy. Kevin Spacey is a great Luthor, no surprise. Kate Bosworth is okay as Lois Lane although she doesn't have quite the umph I think Lois should have. Anyway, it is a good addition to the franchise
(I could digress here and go on a tear about movie reviewers because I wonder what movies they are watching. They don't seem to be the same as the ones I am, but I'll save that for a Life, the Universe and Everything post.)Three hours in an air-conditioned theater seeing a good movie can do wonders for your attitude, so I stopped by the store, picked up the kiddos and got to work with bedtime, laundry and guinea pig feeding and it isn't even 10:00 pm yet! That is success in my book.
So now, a little blogging and some Sprite Zero and I'm off to bed.
Goodnight!
10 hours later. . . Do not, under any circumstances, decide to let your six year old daughter sleep with you when your husband is on a trip. You should know better. She might go to sleep quickly but then, this small child, who is 45% on the growth charts, who sleeps in a twin size bed hugging the side every other night of her life, well, she will proceed to sleep in the middle of the bed and toss and turn ALL NIGHT LONG. Never, ever again.

Question about the new Superman ... has he, as I've heard some say, lost his moral fortitude? I've heard/read some pretty interesting things comparing the new Superman to previous incarnations. I really just need to go see it. The trailers looked pretty good to me. Anyway, just thought I'd get your take on it!
I didn't really think about his moral fortitude... I don't think he's lost it. As I said in the post, Colin and I have been watching some specials on superheroes and one, in particular, is a tie-in to this movie and traces the history of Superman from the beginning. It covered every radio, tv, movie version of it. They talked a lot about the challenges going into this one and how they felt the need to get back to the heart of the first one. So... there is something that happens that might make people question his fortitude, I guess, but it didn't bother me, especially because I didn't see S3 and S4 so I don't know if it fits with what already happened there.
So... I have no idea how to answer your question. We'll have to talk after you see it.
