Well, we all survived and the major casualty was just my good humor.
Paul got home around 6 p.m. Tuesday. He met the three of us at a local skateboard shop where Colin was getting a new deck, wheels and bearings. Yup, basically a whole new skateboard. When Marley saw Paul coming she ran and jumped into his arms and held on tightly. Daddy was home. Ahhhhh.
A few minutes later, as we watched the guy in the shop put the wheels on, Marley asked for her trip present.
"I didn't bring you one this time, Boo-Boo," Paul replied.
"You're just kidding me," Marley, in all earnesty, stated.
(This is the point where Paul, Colin and I all shoot looks at each other. Uh-oh.)
"You're in trouble now, Dad," I tossed in helpfully.
After the skateboard shop we headed out for dinner and then home.
After a long trip like this, I just want my chocolate and soda-supplied hole with books, tv and a computer. No other people. Which really, if you know me, no people? It must be bad. It has taken a couple of days but I think I'm getting back on track today.
Paul is taking the day off, so after a trip to the vet for Nibbler and Smokey to get the second in a series of three go-away-mites shots, we will head over to Disneyland as Marley has a day off at school. Colin has school and I offered to let him take the day off but he informed me that if you have three unexcused absences, you lose credits and will end up being a fifth-year senior. So, no hookey today. Instead, we will come home for a couple of hours to pick him up from school and rest. Then, if our legs are still willing, we meet up with some friends and go back to the Happiest Place on Earth for some more fun, a parade and some fireworks.
Tomorrow is Saturday, blessed Saturday. I'm looking forward to doing as little as possible. All. Day. Long.

Paul travels so much that yes, it isn't reasonable for her to expect a gift. We have a very sophisticated system of long trips equal little present, short trips equal no present. He was gone 10 days, thus the pre-exisitng terms of the father/daughter contract were not held up by the party of the second part: dad!
