You just had to be there...

As I lay in the operating room this morning getting the final preparations for my esophogealblahblahoscopy and colonoscopy, I thought to myself that I really need to be more careful with my scheduling. What other conclusion could I possibly come to after spending the kids' first day at school preparing for the colonoscopy while Paul was on JetBlue flying from Boston to Long Beach not to return until 8:30 pm?

Humorous might be one way to describe Colin's decision to get as far away from me as possible during the afternoon and evening since I was less than pleasant as the Fleets Phospho-soda took effect. He had his grandparents on the phone and his sister waiting with him outside for them to pick the two of them up in the space of five minutes. So, I had a lot of peace and quiet in which to be miserable.

Around 9:00 pm, Paul got home after picking up the kids from his folks. I helped a little to get Marley in bed, but begged off on the annual form fest required by the high school. I think it was the first time in 15 years Paul has filled out any of those emergency cards. Everyone went to bed and got to sleep except for me. I managed a little on the couch but the Fleet's kept right on working all through the night. Marley then decided to wake up around 4:00 am and never went back to sleep.

So, on the kids' second day of school, Grandma and Grandpa came over at 6:40 am so Paul could drive me to the surgical center. We scrambled to get as much done for the day, lunches, etc., before leaving. In some ways, Paul had the worst of it today because he had to wait for me and didn't have time for breakfast--not even a little coffee.

In the pre-op room, I eventually realized that my nurse and I went to the same high school. She was in the class behind me. When she told me her maiden name I remembered her instantly. I had been in student goverment with her older sister. We laughed and it came out that we both have the tendency to run into people from the small city we grew up in (just a couple of miles from the surgical center.) I think the town is small enough, with only one junior high and high school, that you tend to at least know who someone is even if you didn't know them.

Paul brought me home and I dealt with some discomfort for a few hours but am feeling much better now. Much better. It looks like I've got a little gastroesophogeal reflux disease (GERD) and some diverticulosis. I'm glad it is over, grateful for Colin helping out with his sister, thankful for my husband for his look of sympathy he gave me in the waiting room this morning. I have to say, I am determined to never have a colonoscopy again. Blech! Double blech!

Oh, and Marley's being up since 4:00 am? Well, this is what I found around 5:00 pm this evening.

Glad everything went smoothly and you are comfortable now. That's what Marley gets for being up at the crack of dawn. What a peaceful nap she's having. I'm jealous!
